A new higher qualification for childminders has just been announced by PBD, the early years training provider.
PBD has brought out the Certificate in Advanced Childminding Practice in response to widespread demand from childminders for a specialist progression route. Janet Dawson, PBD’s Training Director, said: “We have attended several trade shows recently promoting the new Level 5 Diploma in Early Years Leadership. We have been flooded with interest from childminders but have had to tell many that they will struggle to achieve the leadership elements unless they employ staff or work as part of a network or agency. As the awarding organisations have so far failed to rise to the challenge, we have decided to do so ourselves.”
The PBD Certificate is not a recognised QCF qualification in its own right, but it is based exclusively on QCF units which form part of the City & Guilds 5 Diploma: the level 3 CYPOP unit is also included free of charge for anyone who does not already hold it. Units include child development, professional development, developing environments, managing finance and providing information.
Childminders who complete the qualification will receive a City & Guilds certificate for each unit they achieve, as well as a PBD certificate for the whole qualification. Once achieved, the QCF units are banked and fully transferable, either to the Level 5 Diploma or to any future childminding qualification which includes them.
Childminders interested in the new certificate can get more information from www.pbdevelopment.co.uk/qualifications or by calling PBD at 01440 731731.
