Before starting your qualification, your assessor will visit you to explain the process, to assess whether you have the ability and commitment to succeed, to identify the most appropriate qualification for you and to provide any guidance or support that you need. Once registered, you will complete a six week induction period, during which you will be set work and receive intensive support while things are unfamiliar. This also allows you, your employer and us to be sure that you are on the right track. During this period we will create an individual learning plan.
At the end of the first six weeks we will decide, together, whether we want to continue your training. If we don’t, we will give you appropriate information and guidance on other possibilities. If we do, we will start you on a programme of regular observation visits and written work. Your assessor will be the main point of contact for support or for any problems and will guide you in the use of our online resource library.
Observation visits tend to be more frequent at the start of the process, with ongoing support by email, telephone and Skype. In general, we try to integrate the various elements of an apprenticeship as far as we can, so that it doesn’t feel as if you are doing several separate qualifications at the same time. Very often, a piece of work that you do for one qualification can be used as evidence for others.
All your evidence is stored in a secure, personal, web space, where you can see your progress at a glance. Because this is electronic, you can upload photographs, voice recordings, even video clips, as well as pages of writing. You can upload a piece of work one day and have feedback from your assessor almost immediately, instead of having to wait weeks for a visit.
